‘Blue is a colour that I return to in my work again and again. My latest pieces for Japanese company Nikko are heavily inspired by nature and blue evokes both the water and the air, lending both a dreamy and elemental feel to the pieces. Traditionally blue pigment was extracted from ultra-marine which was rare and therefore expensive – this is why the Virgin Madonna is seen cloaked in blue. It’s a significant colour in art historical traditions that is able to convey so much feeling.’
